Obituary

Vera Mae Flancher Schofill, 75, of Tifton died Monday, September 12, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Edwin Dillard and Rev. Rowan Sirmans will officiate with burial to follow at Metts Cemetery in Alapaha. Steve O’Neal, Randy McCorvey, Tim O’Neal, Don O’Neal, Greg Bell, Gogie Flancher, Jamie Hancock, Jason Coarsey and Danny McLaren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Chambers, Jimmy Chambers, Mark James, Al James, Brian Flancher, Howard Kirkland, Archie White and the “Old Friends”. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Schofill was born on May 22, 1936 in Waycross and was the daughter of Charles William Flancher and Georgia Mae Cribb Flancher, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one son, John Henry Schofill, Jr. and one sister. She graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick in 1954 and was the co-owner/operator of Schofill’s Appliance Company in Tifton. She was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Tifton and a member of the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a great cook and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Schofill is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Henry Schofill, Sr. of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher Todd Schofill and Edsel Lee and Kelli Schofill, all of Tifton; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Whitten and Alex Herrera, Valerie Lynn Schofill and Madison Schofill Heath, all of Tifton; two brothers, Jack Flancher of Tifton and Chuck Flancher of Alabama; four sisters, Juanita Kirkland of Omega, Gwen Kirkland of Tifton, Eldora O’Neal of Nashville and Valle Mente of Ponte Vedra, Florida; eight grandchildren, Nanci Leigh Smith and husband, Chris, Stevi Lynn Sweetnam, Shanna Moran Whitten, Amy Lynn Johnson, Christopher John Schofill, Alana Renea Schofill, Hunter Todd Schofill and Hayley Rene’ Schofill; and one great-grandchild, Brendon Sweetnam.
