Ora Esther Allen Bowman, 91, of 469 Oakland Drive, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born in Carroll County, Va on December 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Walter Allen and Ceili Ayers Allen. She was married to Wise M. Bowman who predeceased her. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She retired from the weave room of Dan River, Inc. in 1965 after 40 years of service.
She is survived by one son, Doug Bowman, of Danville, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Maxie Bowman, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bowman will be held at Barker Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home Chapel one hour prior to the service.
