Dorothy Wright Elliott, age 84, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home of Danville, VA.
Born September 22, 1926 in Franklin Co., VA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Crockett Wright and Martha Crabb Wright. She lived most of her life in Westover Hills. She was a graduate of Brosville High School. She worked at Dan River Mills for 22 years before retiring at the age of 62. Mrs. Elliott was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, served as president of UMW, and was a girl scout leader. She was married 65 years to her surviving husband, Ira Van Elliott, Sr.
Other survivors include: three daughters: Janice Richardson and husband Berkley of Winston-Salem; Susan Ricketts and husband H.T. of Blairs; Martha Knick and husband Gary of Brosville; and one son: Van Elliott, Jr. and wife Nickie of Danville; one brother: Buford Wright; one sister: Jewel Yates; as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two sisters: Ruby Pierce and Esther Gregory; two brothers: Frank and Harold Wright.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Fairview United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Schoolfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times, the home of her son, Van Elliott, Jr., 3605 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA, 24540.
