Obituary

Groton – Helen Frances Kimber, 87, died Thursday, February 19.

Helen was born October 7, 1916, in Groton, CT, the daughter of Hazel Bradway Kimber and John James Kimber.

She was an alumna of Fitch High School, Class of 1935, and the New London Business College.

She was employed as a secretary by Electric Boat in Groton for 20 years. During the mid 1940s she also co-owned, with her sister, Dorothy, The Roberta Shoppe, a dress boutique in NewLondon.

A lifelong student of history, Helen was also an accomplished pianist, a poet and an avid protector of all creatures great and small.

She was a lifetime resident of southeastern Connecticut, with homes in Groton, Gales Ferry, and later Masons Island, Mystic. The past fourteen months, she resided at Fairview in Groton where shereceived compassionate care.

In addition to her sister, Dorothy Kimber Chrissos of Groton, Helen is survived by her nieces Joan Chrissos Durant of Mystic; Heather “Chris” L. Chrissos of North Stonington; Ilona Chrissos Rondini of Cobalt; her nephew, Christopher [Gary] L. Chrissos of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandnieces and ‘nephews; and four great-grand nieces.

A memorial service will be held at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, on Thursday, February 26, 6 pm. Private burial will be in Hillside Cemetery,Monson, Mass. There are no calling hours.
