Obituary

Geraldine K. (Regan) Rice, 88 of Orange Park, FL passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on July 30, 2011 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center Hospice following a brief illness.
Geraldine was born in Natick, MA on January 16, 1923, the daughter of James and Mary (Curtin) Regan. She was the loving wife of Arthur C. (Bud) Rice who passed away in 1973. Geraldine was predeceased by her sisters Mary and Patricia, and her brother James. Affectionately known as Geri, Gigi, or Gram, Geraldine was a graduate in accounting from Bentley College in Boston, MA. She was an active member of the Dye Clay YMCA where she was a regular participant in classes and activities, and was an inspiration to all those who knew her. She worked diligently as a fundraiser and volunteer to support YMCA programs.
Geraldine is survived by her son A. Patrick Rice and his wife Dr. Christine Paige and their daughter Beth of Ashland, MA; her daughter Elaine and her husband William Aflleje with whom she made her home in Orange Park; her daughter Sharon and her husband Kevin Thomson of Jacksonville; and her son John Rice and his wife Martha of Gardner, MA. Also survived by her sisters in law Sheila Babcock of Hopkinton, MA and Evelyn Regan of Fallon, NV. Geraldine was blessed with granddaughters Janice (Aflleje) Moore, Elizabeth Aflleje, Kathy (Aflleje) Cannon, Ann (Thomson) Ahern, and Melissa Thomson. Grandsons Brian Aflleje, Kevin (K.C.) Thomson, and Andrew (Dewey) Thomson. In addition, she was a great grandmother of Maxwell and Addison Moore, Avery Cannon, Hunter and Brock Aflleje, Jonathan and Julia Ahern, and Teddy Thomson.She also leaves several nieces and nephews in both the Natick area and Nevada.
In honoring her wishes, memorialization will be by cremation. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on September 13, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Church in Natick followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, The Geri Rice Fund at the Dye Clay YMCA,3322 Moody Ave, Orange Park, FL. 32065 has been established to help children participate in YMCA activities and programs.
