Obituary

Demetra Kachavos, 90, of Derry, NH, died Sunday September 4, 2011 in the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, MA. She was born in Manchester, NH on June 8, 1921, a daughter of the late John and Giannoula (Coucoulas) Kachavos and had been a lifelong resident of Derry. Demetra was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1939. She was a WWII Army veteran serving as a lieutenant. Demetra had been employed as a registered nurse for Alexander-Eastman Hospital (now Parkland Medical Center) in Derry for 36 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester.
She is survived by two sisters, Ernestine Kaliontzis of Arlington, MA, and Mary Kallechey of Manchester; as well as many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 9th at 12:00pm in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street, Manchester. The burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brown Avenue, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pinkerton Alumni Association, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
