Michael Robert Afienko, 70, a resident of Methuen, MA, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in Manhattan, NY to Michael Francis Afienko and Lynn Forest Charddon, Michael came to South Boston as a young boy and then moved to Woburn, MA.
He came to Methuen in 1973. He worked 25 years for both the Boston and Maine Railroad and then Amtrak, retiring in 1980. Michael was a member of the Lawrence Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. #65. He was an active member of St. Monica's Church as well as a huge Boston Sports fan.

sister-in-law: Francine Howshan and her husband David of Concord, MA, cousin: Thomasine Flanagan of White River Jct., VT, his aunt and uncle: Florence and Paul DeCologero of Avon, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Monica's Church in Methuen. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery also in Methuen. Family and friends may call on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
