George Alfred Thomas of Provincetown died Sunday August 28, 2011 at Seashore Point in Provincetown. Born in Hyannis at Cape Cod Hospital on November 8, 1944, he was the son of the late Genevieve F. Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Provincetown High School. In July of 1966 he joined the Army. He served overseas in Viet Nam, assigned to an infantry company. As a result of his service in Viet Nam, Sgt. Thomas was awarded the CIB Air Medal and a Bronze Star. Following his discharge in 1968, he returned North Truro to live. He went to work for the School Department in the town of Provincetown where he worked as a custodian. He retired several years ago. For many years he has been a member of the Lewis A. Young VFW Post #1348 in Provincetown. Mr. Thomas is survived by numerous relatives and friends in the Truro and Provincetown area, among his extended family are John, Kim John Miles and Ashley Medeiros and Donna and Denise Joseph.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am, Saturday September 24, 2011 in St. Peter the Apostle Church 11 Prince St. Provinctown. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Truro.
