Obituary

Claire L. (McGrail) Fitzgerald, an 18 year resident of Alton, New Hampshire and former 38 year resident of Wakefield, Massachusets, died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Oosterman Rest Home in Wakefield, Massachusetts following an extended illness. She was 91 years old.

Claire was born in South Boston on March 13, 1920 to the late Frank and Ann (Mooney) McGrail. She grew up in South Boston where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Nazareth Academy High School in South Boston. She went on to study nursing and worked as a medical technician at Lahey Clinic Lab in Boston. Claire moved to Wakefield after her marriage to her husband Edward and began working at American Mutual as an underwriter for more than 20 years. She moved to Alton, New Hampshire in 1993 and became involved with the many senior activities in the Alton Bay area. She managed the Meals on Wheels Progaram and the Alton Senior Center for many years. She was a Trustee Member for the Levey Park in Alton and a member of the Alton Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of The Garden Club and The Gunstock Swim Club in Alton Bay. She was a devoted parishoner and eucharistic minister at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Alton, New Hampshire.

Claire is the beloved wife of the late Edward W. Fitzgerald. She is the devoted mother of Claire Candace Fitzgerald of Alameda, California, Maureen Ann Fitzgerald of Houston, Texas and Edward F. Fitzgerald and his wife Kathleen of Wakefield, MA. She is the loving Nana to Katelyn and Lauren Fitzgerald both of Wakefield, MA. She is the beloved sister of Bernice "Bunnie" Dwyer of Alexandria, Virginia, Helen Staffier of Nahant and the late Marie "Sis" Eunson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Claire's Funeral Mass on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Church, Hidden Springs Road, Alton, New Hampshire with visiting hours in the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will take place at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton, New Hampshire. Visiting hours will also be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Wakefield/Melrose line.
