Obituary

Osaka, Japan: Taeko Torii peacefully and comfortably passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States after being diagnosed with cancer a few months earlier. At her bedside, holding her hand, was her loving 2daughter supported by her son-in-law.
Mrs. Torii was born in Osaka, Japan on June 9, 1932.
Taeko Torii was a loyal and devoted wife and caregiver to her husband Keiyo Torii who has suffered from Alzheimer’s over the last several years, a caring and supportive mother to her daughter Eiko Torii-Williams, an inspiration to her son in-law Donald J. Williams and a comforting and reassuring presence for her grandchildren Keita and Emmie, who adore obaachan as much as she loved them. She is also survived by her three sisters and her brother who live in Japan.
Mama was a strong and wise woman with business savvy tempered by elegance and grace. She believed in being strong, being honest and having an appreciation for beauty. She came from a proud lineage as a member of the Harada clan. She was a keeper of Japanese traditions that included the chado (tea ceremony), kado (flower arranging) and sumi (Japanese calligraphy). In addition to being an excellent preparer of traditional Japanese dishes. She enjoyed traveling, caring for her garden and has a talent for crafts and sewing.
The Williams family would like to express their deepest appreciation to their family, good friends and to all the wonderful people whom they have only met in recent days, for the compassion, understanding and assistance that they have extended to them.
A private ceremony will be conducted for the family at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road, Wayland, MA (508-653-4220).
