Velma Young Watson, 83, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 28, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Ms. Watson was born January 31, 1928 in Ben Hill County to the late Sam and Elizabeth Troup Young. She grew up in Osierfield and lived in Ben Hill County all of her life. She was a 1946 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. Ms. Watson was a former employee of Friedlander's, Halperin's and Fitzgerald Underwear. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and the WMU.
She is survived by a daughter: Mary Ann (James) Williams of Fitzgerald; sons: David (Shirley) Watson of Fitzgerald and Michael (Latrelle) Watson of Donalsonville; grandchildren: David (Angie) Williams, Ted (Bridget) Williams, Brad Williams, Wendy Tucker, Stephanie Watson, Meghann Clark, Anna Grace Watson, Caleb Watson; great grandchildren: Brittany, Lexie, Daniell, Austin, Dillan and Jeffrey; sister: Ruth (Joel) Weeks of Fitzgerald; brothers: Ezra (Ruby) Young and Eston Young of Fitzgerald as well a several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Billy Watson and 3 sisters.
