Mr. Jose Vieira, age 80 of Medford, formerly of Somerville and Portugal, died Tuesday in Wingate At Reading, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Laura (Germano) Vieira. Mr. Vieira was born and educated in the village of St. Michael in Portugal. He emigrated from the Azores in 1967 settling in Somerville. He was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Menezes) Vieira. For over 30 years he worked tirelessly as a building and groundskeeper for Tufts University retiring in 1996. Mr. Vieira loved gardening and family get togethers. Nothing gave him more enjoyment than his grandchildren. He was a member of the Portuguese Sporting Club of Somerville and was also a member in Portugal. He is survived by four daughters: Maria DaSilva and her husband Frank of Medford, Eduarda DaSilva and her husband Joe of Portugal, Helia Braz and her husband Phil of Wilmington and Doria Vieira of Somerville, two sons: Paul Vieira and his wife Marie of Malden and Cesar Vieira of Salem. Loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren. Brother of Gilda Vieira of Portugal and the late Antonio, Manuel And Danubio Vieira. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main Street MEDFORD. Saturday at 9:00 AM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 pm. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
