Annie Cumbo Ewing, age 86, of 160 Samuel Court, Danville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in the Danville Regional Medical Center. She had experienced several years of declining health while living at her residence with her husband Stuart Ewing.
Born September 16, 1924 in Washington County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Milton Cumbo and Emma Davis Cumbo. Most of her life was spent in Alexandria and in Danville where she was a hairdresser until her retirement. On December 4, 1942, she married Stuart R. Ewing and they enjoyed 68 years of a wonderful marriage together. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, later in life spending much of her time taking care of other people’s needs. She loved and was loved by her family immensely. A devoted Christian and woman of prayer, Mrs. Ewing was a charter member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church (now White Oak Worship Center), serving as Director of the Ladies’ Ministry and also singing in the choir.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart Richard Ewing of the home; one son: Pastor Roger L. Ewing and his wife Garnette of Danville; two daughters: Theresa Ewing Bruce and her husband Don, and Dr. Shelia Ewing Isom and her husband Garry, all of Danville; two brothers: Sherman Cumbo of Danville, Horace Cumbo and his wife Barbara of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren: Michelle Sizer of Raleigh, NC, Lindsey Davis and her husband Jamie of Danville, and Lee Ewing and his wife Tracey of Ringgold; three great-grandchildren: Anna Ewing, Luke Ewing, and Tensley Ann Davis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by ten siblings.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Roger Ewing and Dr. Shelia Isom will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the White Oak Worship Center in Blairs, VA. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 25, 2011 at White Oak Worship Center from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
At other times, they will be at the home of her son, Pastor Roger Ewing, 513 Samuel Road, Danville.
