Obituary

SALEM- William W. “Bill” Kowalski, 93, of Salem, husband of the late Matilda B. (Nowak) Kowalski, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in the Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Joseph and Julianna (Kobierski) Kowalski. He was a resident of Salem for most of his life.

Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed for several by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts years as a court officer at the State House in Boston. He previously worked at the Dory Shoe Factory in Lynn, and other shoe factories, for many years.

An Army veteran of WWII, he attained the rank of Technician Fourth Class and served as a medical technician with the Detachment Medical Department, 20th Field Hospital in the Aleutians, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He is survived by one son, William W. Kowalski Jr. of Salem, one daughter and son-in-law, Julie Anne and James Whalen of Oceanside, New Your, one grandchild, Elizabeth Whalen of Oceanside, New York, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stephen F. kowalski, Albert Kowalski, Edmund Kowalski, John Kowalski, Alice Bachorowski and Claire Kowalski.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2004, at 10 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am at the St John The Baptist Church, Salem.
