DORIS I. (HOLLINSHEAD) ANDERSON, 84, of Scituate and Narragansett, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at home in Bonnet Shores. She was the loving wife of the late Richard W. Anderson Jr., to whom she was married for 47 years until his death in 1995. They had four children: Richard W. Anderson III and his wife Gloria, Jack Anderson and his wife Karen, Leslie Anderson and her companion Kenneth Martin, and R. Curtis Anderson and his wife Sharon; 10 adored grandchildren: Kristin Hoppe, Eric Anderson, Kathryn King, Dean and Ross Anderson, Elizabeth and Jacqueline Olney, and Christopher, Leigh, and Robert Anderson; and six cherished great-grandchildren: Caleb, Grace, Samuel, Korina, Zaria, and Claire.
Born in Providence and raised in North Providence, Doris was the only child of the late Samuel and Margaret (Owen) Hollinshead, immigrants from England. Doris had worked as a retail clerk at the Boston Store, medical secretary for Dr. Potter, research associate for Brown University, and certified activities director at Waterman Heights Nursing Home. A resident of Scituate for 53 years, she summered in Bonnet Shores since her teenage years.
Doris was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, a member of the North Providence High School Class of 1945 Reunion Committee, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Cub Scout den mother, PTA president, and served on many church, school, and volunteer committees. She enjoyed her years as a PPAC usher. Doris was a faithful and fun-loving member of “the girls” and “the card group.”
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 251 Danielson Pike, N. Scituate. Visiting hours will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. at Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
