Obituary

Roger M. Reed, Jr., 75, of Westport, died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 21, 2011 at home. He was the husband of Linda M. (O’Brien) Reed.


Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Roger M. and Hilda (Taber) Reed. He was a lifelong resident of Westport who graduated from Westport High School in 1954. He served as an instructor for the Army Intelligence Corp in survival tactics, and taught interrogation response procedures to potential P.O.W.’s, during the Vietnam era. Mr. Reed was a sword fisherman for many years. He worked for forty years at Tripp’s Boat Yard, Westport as a boat rigger. He also served as the Assistant Harbor Master for the Town of Westport until retiring. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and lobstering on his boat “The Pintail.” He was well known in this area for his handcrafted waterfowl decoys. Mr. Reed enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted husband and father.


In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by: a son, Roger M. Reed III of Westport; a daughter, Lisa R. Moody and her husband Scot of Wolfeboro, NH; his grandson, Spencer A. Moody; his Aunt and Uncle Marion and Rene Ouellette of Westport; and several cousins. He was the brother of the late Samuel W. Reed.


A graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 11:00 A.M., at Maple Grove Cemetery in Westport. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
