Margaret A. “Peg” (Grant) Gurney age 68 of West Palm Beach, Fl formerly of Brockton, died Sunday August 21, 2011 at the home of her daughter surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of Herbert A. Gurney, Jr. (ret. BFD) for 47 years. She was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late James G. and Rita (Peters) Grant. A 1962 graduate of Brockton High School, Peg lived in Brockton for most of her life before moving to West Palm Beach, Florida ten years ago. A homemaker devoted to her home and family, Peg enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling and also loved swimming and golf.
She is survived by her children Joseph A. Gurney and wife Elina of Moreland Hills, OH; Cheryl A. Smith and husband Mark of Norwell, MA; Herbert A. Gurney and wife Christen of Plympton, MA; Kendra A. McBride and husband Paul of Yarmouthport, MA and Paul G. Gurney and wife Heidi of Brockton, MA. Grandmother to ten grandchildren and sister of Joan Swart of FL, Mary Jamieson and Judith Ludwig both of Bridgewater, James Grant, Jr. of Wareham, Deborah Petronelli of Cape Cod, Kevin Grant of Rochester, MA, Paul Grant of Cape Cod and the late John Grant, Agnes Brown, Rita McElroy and David Grant. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday from 8 to 8:30am followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church , 433 West Street, Brockton at 9am.
