Obituary

WORONOCO-Herbert F. D. Kenary, 85, died Saturday, August 20th in The Soldiers Home in Holyoke. His wife, Claire D. (Armey) Kenary died in 1998. He leaves a son, Alan H. Kenary of Russell, four daughters, Pamela Archambault of Uxbridge, Marilyn Lofthouse of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Hamlin of Palmyra, ME and Deborah Knight of Russell; two sisters, Dorothy Bourassa of FL and Angela O’Connor of MD; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two daughters, Susan Royland and Mary Kenary and two brothers, Raymond and Philip Kenary.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Vincent M.A. and Agnes T. (Bruso) Kenary. Mr. Kenary was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Herbert worked for the Environmental Police as a game warden for 24 years, retiring in 1988 as Lieutenant. He previously worked at the Worcester Public Library as a custodian. Mr. Kenary was instrumental in organizing the union for the environmental police and served as treasurer for the C.O.P.S. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Russell and its parish council. Herbert was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council and Our Lady of the Angels Church.
The funeral will be held on Monday, August 29th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Sunday, August 28th from 2:00 until 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
