Obituary

Walter G. “Kent” Prescott, 85, of Dearing, Georgia, died Monday, February 16, 2004, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 21, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, Georgia with Rev. Kenneth Hester and Rev. Todd Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Prescott was born November 11, 1918 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late James B. and Miriam Powell Prescott. He lived in Dearing for the past ten years from Fitzgerald, where he lived most of his life. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a former employee of Fitzgerald Hardware and Gold Leaf Warehouse. Mr. Prescott served in the United States Army during World War II serving in the 10th Mountain Quartermaster Battalion, and was awarded a Good Conduct Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a former member of Dorminy Mill Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church, both of Fitzgerald and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dearing, GA.

Mr. Prescott is survived by his wife: Loyce A. Ogletree Prescott, Dearing, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law: Walter “Kent” and Pamela Prescott, Canton, GA and Spurgeon “Spud” and Merrilyn Prescott, Marietta, GA; one daughter and son-in-law: Mary Lynn and Terrell Thogmartin, Villa Rica, GA; five grandchildren: Tony Ray Bradford, Michael Allen Bradford, Kassie Lynn Bradford, Joshua Kent Prescott and Jennifer Chalmers Prescott. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Lynn Prescott.
