John J. Antonangeli, 91, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton and Falmouth, passed away peacefully, August 18, 2011 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Aileen B. (Smith) Antonangeli who passed away August 12, 2011. They were married November 29, 1942 in Rockland at Holy Family Church and had been married for 68 years. John was raised and educated in Brockton, son of the late Dominic L. and Felicetta (Tuiona) Antonangeli. He lived in Brockton for 42 years, moved to Cape Cod for 23 years and had resided in East Bridgewater for the last three years. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel prior to serving in the Navy during WWII. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal. Following the service John returned to Bethlehem Steel/General Dynamics where he worked for 45 years, retiring in 1984 as General Foreman. He had been a member of the VFW, Bertocci Club and Sons of Italy; enjoyed woodworking, bocce, wine making and playing cards with his grandson Paul. He was also an avid Boston sports fan.
He is survived by his four children Marie McGinn and her husband Ronald of Brockton, John J. Antonangeli, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Manomet Beach, Teresa Mann of East Bridgewater and Dominic Antonangeli of East Bridgewater; nine grandchildren Carol, Ronald Jr., Colleen, Paul, Evan, Jade, Dominic Jr., Francesca and Isabella and three great grandchildren Jessica, Ryan and Cameron. He was the brother of the late Valentine Anthony, Henry Antone Nora Valente and Louis Antonangeli.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
