Methuen, MA – Arleen R. (Linehan) Jean, 68, passed away on Thursday August 18, 2011 in Haverhill at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side .
Arleen was born in Methuen the daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Wright) Linehan and grew up in Methuen where she graduated from Tenney High School class of 1961.
For nine years, Arleen began her working career as a librarian at Methuen’s Stephen Barker school and continued to work for the City of Methuen for many years as a secretary in the town accountants office prior to her retirement in June.
She was very proud that she worked for the City of Methuen for 35 years.
Arleen enjoyed traveling to foxwood’s, playing bingo, and vacationing at Salisbury Beach during the summer months. Like all grandmothers she loved spending time with them and became the consummate grandmother. She was known to attend every event her granddaughters were involved in from school events to karate.
Arleen was the widow of Joseph E. Jean and is survived by children; daughter Laurie and her husband Christopher Callery of Hudson, NH, her son Timothy J. Jean of Methuen, sisters Patricia Warren of Wisconsin, Maryjane Barr of Methuen, brothers Scott Gagnon and significant other Claire Ouellette of Salem, NH, and John Linehan of Lawrence, two grandchildren Katherine and Olivia Callery of Hudson, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish/Saint Theresa Church 22 Plymouth Street in Methuen with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends will be warmly received on Monday from 3-8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
