Obituary

Worcester - Warren R. Acker, 75, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, August 14, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at Brigham & Women's Hospital. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Joyce M. (Fitman) Acker; 2 daughters and 1 son, Lisabeth M. Merchant and her husband Raymond W. of Uxbridge, Christine M. Acker of Worcester, and Timothy J. Acker and his wife Carolina de Sousa of Cary, NC; 1 sister, Donna Kubert of FL; 5 grandchildren, Shannon Morrissette of Worcester, Caitlin Merchant of Uxbridge, Madelyn, Katie, and Nicolas Acker of NC; 2 great-grandchildren, Brooke and Paige Morrisette of Worcester; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his brother Roy I. Acker, Jr.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Helen C. (Larsen) and Roy I. Acker, Sr., and was a graduate of Commerce High. Warren proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Norton Company, Allmerica Financial, and C.A.P. Warren was a member of Singletary Road & Gun Club and an avid Boston sports fan. He enjoyed vacations in Ireland (and all things Irish) and Stowe, Vermont, and walking on the beach in Ogunquit, Maine. Warren enjoyed reading and was a history and Civil War buff. He loved attending air shows and spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren. Warren will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Calling hours will be at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Wednesday, August 17, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be at Nordgren Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 18, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development & The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445-9924.
