Obituary

TAUNTON – Elsie (Soares) Thomas, 87, died at her Taunton home on Aug. 13, 2011.
She was the wife the late James T. Thomas, Col. U.S. Army, Ret.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Oliveira) Soares.
She was a lifelong Taunton resident.
A 1941 graduate of Taunton High School, Mrs. Thomas was employed by Marshall & Son Funeral Home for over thirty-three years, where she worked as a funeral home assistant.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, a member of the Parish Council, and an active organizer of parish fund raising events.
A past chairperson for the Catholic Charities Appeal from St. Anthony’s Parish and past president of the Coyle Cassidy Mother’s Club, Mrs. Thomas was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River in 1972.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Delaney of Taunton, Carol Maloney and her husband Paul of Abington, and Linda Thomas of Taunton, with whom she resided; five sisters, Josephine Martin of FL, Lillian Horton of Attleboro, and Mrs. Lawrence (Anne) Perry, Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Amaral and Helen White, all of Taunton; dear friends, Deacon Thomas J. Souza and his wife Carol of Taunton; eight grandsons; a great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late James M. Thomas, M.D. and the sister of the late Manuel Soares, Harry Soares, and Mae Galloway.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday Aug. 16th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 15th from 5 to 8 p.m.
