Herculano D. Arruda, our devoted husband, father and grandfather, 68, of New Bedford died August 13, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Iria (Pacheco) Arruda.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Augusto and Germina (Mello) Arruda, he lived in New Bedford for the past 41 years.
Mr. Arruda was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
He was formerly employed as an assembly line worker for American Cable Systems.
Mr. Arruda was happiest when in his yard, spending time with his family and fishing and hunting with his sons.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Paul D. Arruda and his wife Suzanne of New Bedford; and Rodney D. Arruda and his fiancee, Stephanie Kerns of New Bedford; a grandson, Gabriel Arruda; his mother-in-law, Maria (Mello) Pacheco of New Bedford; his sister-in-law, Lucy Paiva and her husband John of New Bedford; 3 nieces, Mary Moniz, Gorette Musitano and Diane Pereira; a nephew, Robert Paiva.
He was the brother of the late Arthur Arruda and Edward Arruda.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, August 17th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 16th from 4-8 PM.
