Obituary


Norman W. Rogers, 95, of Kingston formerly of Whitman, died Thursday August 11th in the Colony House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Abington, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Eleanor (Gionta) Rogers.

Norman was born and raised in Rockland, son of the late George W. and Beatrice (Sanderson) Rogers. He was a graduate of Rockland high School, class of 1933.

He served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a Corporal, from 1942-1945.He was a P.O.W in Germany and was in the Battle of the bulge.

Norman was an office supervisor for Brockton Edison for 45 years. He also owned and operated the Rogers Variety Store on Pleasant St. in Whitman for 20 years until 1970.

He was a member of the Whitman VFW Post # 697, American Legion and the D.A.V.

Norman enjoyed gardening, word search puzzles, traveling to Puerto Rico, the Red Sox, and at the age of 90 he still loved to go quohoging. He loved joking around, most of all he enjoyed his family,

In addition to his wife Eleanor, he is survived by his children, Norman G. Rogers, Kevin G.Rogers and his wife Sue all of Whitman, Gerald E. Rogers of Dighton and Gail E. Simmons of Halifax, 9 grandchildren, Heather, Alissa, and Jessica Rogers, Kevin G. Rogers, Jr. and his wife Kerry, Timothy J. Rogers and his wife Pam, Alexandra and John Gunn, Jacob G Simmons and his wife Sue and Nicholas P. Simmons, 8 great grandchildren Matthew, Noah, Benjamin and Zachary Rogers, Nichole Hartnett, Leanne, Brenna and Nolan Simmons.

His services will be held on Monday August 15th at 6:30PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00-6:30PM.Burial will be in the MA V.A. National Cemetery at a later date.
