Obituary

Marshall Ramos, 72, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 23, 2011.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone and Mary (Almeida) Ramos, he lived in New Bedford for many years and later moved to the Ojai, California area before returning to New Bedford within the past year.

Marshall graduated from New Bedford High School, and Southeastern Massachusetts University in Dartmouth. He had been a star high school basketball player and had continued sharing his basketball talents in other area leagues. He was also known as an excellent singer in the area, starting in his teen years when he formed a great singing group called The Silktones. Marshall had also been a popular personality as a bartender at Smuggler's Den.

He served in the U.S. Air Force at March Air Force Base in California. While residing on the West Coast, he held various positions in sales.

He is survived by his daughters, Erin Krumpelmann of Draper, Utah, and Rebecca Lopes of Rehoboth; a sister, Alda Nunes of Harwich; two brothers, Albert "Buddy" Ramos and Alfred "Butch" Ramos, both of New Bedford; and four grandchildren in Utah.

He was cremated according to his wishes. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
