ANNE "SNOOKIE" (JACOBS) VAFIDES, a lifelong resident of Hull, died on Aug. 7th, 2011 at the Colonial Nursing Center in Weymouth at the age of 79. Snookie grew up on her family's farm on Duck Lane in Hull, was graduated from Hingham High School and then worked for the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. She was a familiar site at the ticket booth at the former Paragon Park in Hull where she spent many summers. She also waitressed at the former Page's Restaurant in Hingham for several years.
Snookie was predeceased in February by her husband Nick, to whom she was married for 59 years. She leaves her sons; Robert, Paul and his wife Donna (Troupes) and Mark and his fiancee Tobe Sachs all of Hull. Grandmother of Eric of Hull, Christopher and his wife Julie (Lungarini) of Carver and Nikolas and Jacob Vafides of Mandeville, Louisianna. She was a special grandmother to Molly Schauer and Rachel Sachs. Snookie leaves her brother, Billy Jacobs of Quincy and sister, Alice Huggett of Round Rock, Texas. She was sister of the late Betty Vafides and niece of the late Lillian M. Jacobs. Also survived by her brothers-in-law; John, Harry and Bill Vafides and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves her dear friend, Helen Bradley.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 11th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel prior to the service from 10 - 11 AM.
