Obituary

Dr. Edward Clinton Richardson, Jr., age 93, of Winchester, passed away Aug. 8, 2011. Born in Portland, ME, he was the son of the late Mabel (Coombs) and Edward C. Richardson, Sr. A graduate of Medford high School, Boston University Business School, and Tufts Dental School, he played hockey and was the co-captain of the Medford High School and Boston University hockey teams. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, having served as Lt. Commander in the US Navy.

Throughout his life he enjoyed being with his wife and family, skiing, skating, dancing, gardening and vacationing in Bridgton, Maine. He practiced dentistry in Medford and Winchester and upon his retirement, the practice continued to be developed by his brother Dr. Philip Richardson in Medford and currently by his niece, Dr. Sarah E. Richardson in Belmont, MA.

He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ed was brother to the late Frances Clark, Cora Cutter, and Ruth Cashman; brother-in-law to the late Stephen Cashman, Charles Cutter, William Clark, Angele (DeSmet), Christina and Rene DeSmet; and uncle to the late Kevin Cashman and David Clark.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Marie E. (DeSmet); his loving daughters and sons-in-law Ellen and Peter E. O’Neill of Lexington, MA, Christine and Raymond I. Rigney, Jr., of Chelmsford, MA, Marilyn DuPont of Hollis, NH, and Lisa and George Elwell, III of Winchester, MA; his brother and sister-in-law Philip E. and Joan Richardson of East Dennis, MA; his ten grandchildren: Matthew Rigney and his wife Jennifer of Upper Arlington, OH, Jennifer Rigney-Carroll and her husband Dennis of Upper Arlington, OH, Christopher R. O’Neill of Lexington, MA, Jesse (Stabile) Morrell and her husband John of Lee, NH, Stacey (Stabile)Keith and her husband Sean of Apex, NC, Kristen DuPont of Hollis, NH, Megan(Harrington) Edward and her husband Larry of North Reading, MA, and Jacqueline, Olivia, and George Elwell IV of Winchester, MA; his ten great-grandchildren: Benjamin and William Rigney-Carroll, Lauren and Ryan Rigney, Alexandra and Joseph Morrell, Maggie and Molly Keith, Cole Harrington and Sage Edward; his fifteen nieces and nephews and their families: James, Philip and Elizabeth Clark, Elaine(Cutter) Emery, Susan(Cutter) Morin, Jeanne (Cutter) Clermont, Janice(Cutter) Roy, Nancy (Cutter) Gordon, Judy (Cutter)Silva, Edward Cashman, Donna Cashman, Cheryl (Richardson)Wagner, Kathleen(Richardson) Winkler, and Sarah Richardson.

Visitation and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of MA, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
