Obituary

LEICESTER; Gordon E. Kemp, 85, died peacefully on Friday, August 5, surrounded by his loving family at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.

He is survived by his son Randy Kemp and his wife Cheryl of Worcester, his daughters, Robin Johnson and her husband David of Arundel, ME, Valerie Kemp of Pittsfield, Diana Davenport and her husband Arnold of Leicester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caroline Alves and her husband Mike of Falmouth, Ashley Mick of Worcester and Cody and Alexis Davenport of Leicester. He also leaves 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Charlotte Alves of Falmouth and many nieces and nephews.

He is pre-deceased by his wife, Shirley B. (Felch) Kemp who died February 14, 1992, by his brothers, Philip Cotto and Willis Kemp, Jr. and sisters, Irene Marsh and Sophie Brown.

He was born in Auburn on March 30, 1926 the son of Willis & Alma (Reithel) Kemp. He lived in Oxford and moved to Leicester in 1954. He was in the US Naval Reserve in WWII and a member of the Chester P. Tuttle Post 0279 in Auburn and a D.A.V. life member Chapter 4 in Worcester.

He was a self employed contractor and partner with John Paige in Woodland Remodeling for many years. His public service includes 10 years on the Leicester Planning Board and 10 years on the Town Hall Center School Building Commission.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 9 at 10 A.M. in Greenville Baptist Church, 684 Pleasant St., Rochdale. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Calling hours are Monday from 5-7 P.M. in the funeral home. The family suggests that flowers be omitted and donations made to the Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA, 01104 or to the Charity of the donor’s choice. The MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are directing arrangements.
