Antone V. “Tony Barba” Arruda, age 78 of Fall River and formerly of Somerset, passed away Aug. 1, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Medeiros) Arruda and the son of the late Joseph V. & Francelina S. (Cabral) Arruda. Prior to retiring, Antone worked as a Laborer Foreman for the Laborers’ Union Local 610 for 40 years. He was a parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, a former Vice President & on the Board of Directors of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 610, a former Vice President of St. Michaels Club, and he was a soccer player for the Fall River Sports Soccer Club.
Antone was the father of Mark Anthony Arruda & his wife Mary Anna of Fall River and Mary Ann Branin & her husband Roger of Westport; the brother of Joseph V. Arruda of Somerset and Francelina Sousa of Fall River; the grandfather of Kate M. Holbrook & her husband Jeremiah “Jamie” of Fall River; and the uncle of several nieces & nephews. Antone was predeceased by his siblings, Alfred Arruda, Mary Travis, Alice Arruda, Betty Jennings, & Evelyn Carvalho.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on FRIDAY at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Espirito Santo Church, Alden St. at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours THURSDAY 4-8 P.M.
