Obituary

Inez Stone Knight, 98, of Athens’ Georgia, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Monday, August 1, 2011, at Arbor Terrace in Athens, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, at 10 AM at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Knight was born August 27, 1912 in Ben Hill County to the late William J. and Nancy Carroll Stone. She lived in Fitzgerald most of her life, but for the past 17 years lived in the Athens area to be near her daughters. A graduate of Fitzgerald High School, she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class, a member of the Retired Railroad Club, and was a Pink Lady at the Ben Hill County Hospital and later Dorminy Medical Center.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Vonceil and Robert Payne of Bishop, GA and Nancy and Dale Degenhardt of Athens; 5 grandchildren: Robert Payne, Jr, Bradford Payne, Mary Catherine Moore, Norman Frederick, Jr, and Paul Frederick; and 8 great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Monroe Knight, 5 brothers, and 6 sisters.
