Nicholas L. Vinios, a Boston based New England real estate developer, has died at the age of 81.
Mr. Vinios was a resident of Dover, MA and Palm Beach, FL. and was married to his wife Jean (Philopoulos) for 56 years.
He recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the heart transplant he received in 1991 at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Nick was always grateful for those who cared so well for him over the past 20 years, in particular, Dr. Gilbert Mudge and Dr. Lawrence Cohn as well as Dr. Bernard Lown of the Lown Cardiovascular Clinic for his pre-transplant care.
After his marriage to Jean in 1955, Nick joined his father-in- law's real estate development business, John Philopoulos Associates. The company built many shopping centers anchored by A&P Supermarkets and King's Department Stores from the late 1950s into the 1970s. In 1970, the company developed the 57 Complex in Park Square, Boston, which was operated by the company for 40 years until it was sold last year.
Nick was instrumental in the founding of the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, MA and continued his support of the facility with a charitable golf tournament. Nick was also a founding member of the The Alpha Omega Council, a Hellenic charitable organization, Leadership 100, an organization dedicated to advancing the Orthodox faith and Hellenic ideals in America, the Blue Hill Masonic Lodge of Canton, MA and a member of the Board of Directors of USTrust Corp.
A longtime member of Woodland Golf Club in Newton, MA and Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in Wellington, FL, he was also an avid fisherman and boater and was especially proud of piloting his Bertram back and forth to Florida.
Mr. Vinios was born in Lowell, MA and graduated from Lowell High School and attended Northeastern University while he was working. In addition to his wife Jean, Mr. Vinios leaves his son, Louis of Osterville, MA and daughters, Elaine Pantazopoulos of Milton, Diane Lucchesi of Medfield, MA and Kristin Marken of Dover, MA. and 12 grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 2-6pm(due to the 6pm Paraklesis Service)on Monday, August 1st at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and a funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 2nd at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church. The church is located at 57 Brown Street, Weston, MA 02493.
