Obituary

Miles A. Allerdice, 87, of Merrimack died July 29, 2011 at his residence after a period of declining health.
He was born in Woodburn, IA on April 16, 1924, the only child of William and Florence (Kiger) Allerdice. Early in his life his father died, then his mother married Roy McNamer and both raised him in Ottumwa, IA.
He enlisted in the US Army prior to his senior year of high school and served in the European Theatre from 1943 through 1945. He landed on Omaha Beach on June 7, 1944 as part of the 149th Combat Engineering Battalion and earned many commendations and medals for his efforts during this campaign.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1947 to 1950, then in the US Air Force until 1964.
Mr. Allerdice later worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a programmer at the Nashua Air Traffic Control Center until his retirement in 1986.
He enjoyed gardening and casino bus trips. He was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
The family includes his wife of 60 years, Doris (Earnshaw) Allerdice of Merrimack; a son, Stephen Allerdice and his wife, Diane, of Merrimack; two grandsons, Timothy Allerdice and his wife, Jessica, of Northfield, and Michael Allerdice and his wife, Candice, of Merrimack; five great grandchildren; and cousins.
A committal service with military honors was held Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
