Obituary

Karen Ann Slayton Duncan Adkins, 51, of 747 Mt. Hill Road, Ringgold, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born in Elizabeth City, NC on June 20, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Nelson Lee Slayton and Fratinia Johnson Slayton. She was married to Michael Adkins who survives her of the home. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was close to earning her nursing degree until her health failed.

In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by two daughters, Crystal Gayle Clayton of the home and Carmen Michelle Clayton of Dewitt, Va. and a son, Jessie Bradford Clayton and his wife, Camila,of Danville. Other survivors include one sister, Lesa S. Shelton of Danville, two brothers, Johnny W. Slayton of Winston-Salem, NC,
and her twin brother, Keith Vann Slayton of Appomattox, VA. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Cierra Jade Clayton and Sarrah Gabriela Clayton, and her mother-in-law, Donna K. Adkins, of Danville. In addition to
her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Vicki Lee Collins.

Funeral services for Karen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Emmerson officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home Chapel one hour prior to the service and at other times, they will be at the home of Lesa Shelton, 123 Summit Road, Danville and at the home of her son, at 919 Mt. Hill Road in Ringgold.
