Obituary

Raymond O. Aguiar, age 67, of Westport, died Thursday, July 28th at home with his family after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was the beloved husband of Fatima (Pimenta) Aguiar.

Born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Açores on April 4th, 1944, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Oliveira) Aguiar.

Ray helped his family immigrate to the United States when he was 14 years old. He worked as a Maintenance Mechanic at Lightolier-Aluminum Processing in Fall River for over 36 years. Upon his retirement last year, he received many awards from state officials celebrating his retirement and commitment to the Portuguese Community.

Ray enjoyed working on cars, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and his dog, Kaiser. He was a member of the Sociedade Cultural Açoreana.

Besides his wife Fatima, Ray is deeply loved and greatly missed by his daughter, Marci (Aguiar) Mires and her husband David of Berkley, his daughter Mindi Aguiar of Fall River, his stepchildren John Santos and his wife Ana, Stephanie Pereira and her husband Emanuel, and Kevin Santos all of Fall River. He is the proud grandfather of Jordan Ray Aguiar, Evan and Morgan Santos and James Reilly and brother of Geraldine Vultao, Mary Camara, Manuel Aguiar, Joseph Aguiar all of Fall River, Lydia Farias of Assonet and the late Messias Aguiar of Fall River. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.

During his last week with his family, he repeatedly let it be known that his wish was for his loved ones to stay together as a family, please join Ray's family in celebrating his life.

His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard Church, Main Rd, Assonet at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours SUNDAY 4-8 P.M.
