Mr. James Joseph Devine, III, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Helen (Lally) Devine, died at the VA Hospital in Bedford on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. He was 89 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 10, 1922, he was the beloved son of the late James Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (O’Brien) Devine. James was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Coast Guard from August 2, 1942 and receiving his honorable discharge from Boston on October 1, 1945. While serving in the Coast Guard, Mr. Devine was stationed in Boston and was aboard the USS Campbell. He also served in New York City. Mr. Devine was employed for many years by the Postal Service and retired as an Inspector. He enjoyed traveling to Ireland and had been a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford.
He will be sadley missed by his loving son; James J. Devine, IV of Medford, daughter and son-in-law; Maryanne and her husband Gary S. Sachs of Lincoln, brother Robert Devine of Venice, Florida and grandchildren; Leslie and Greg Sachs.
His funeral services were privately held. Arrangements were entrusted to the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Medford.
