Obituary

Gordon R. Allen 72 of 418 Main St., Cherry Valley, died Thursday, February 12th at Saint Vincent Hospital after an illness. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Patricia M. (Morrison), a son, David G. Allen and his wife Barbara of Mount Pleasant, SC, a daughter, Mary Anne Gleason and her husband Paul of Spencer, 5 grandchildren; Brandt and Rosemary Allen of Mount Pleasant, SC, Benjamin, Bridget, and Christopher Gleason of Spencer. Born in Cherry Valley, he was the son of Roland L. & Annie C. (Brandt) Allen and has lived there all his life. He was educated in Leicester public schools and graduated from Becker College. After serving in the Signal Corps of the United States Army, he worked for more than forty years in financial services, most of that at the former brokerage firm of Kinsley & Adams. He retired in 1996 as Assistant Vice President and Operations Manager at the Worcester office of Smith Barney. He also served on the board of Leicester Savings Bank. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Leicester. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Leicester Historical Society, and the Leicester Seniors Club. Mr. Allen and his wife Patricia were longtime members of the New England Apache Campers Club. Along with camping, he also enjoyed bowling, woodcarving and woodworking. The funeral will be held Tuesday, February 17th from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main St., Leicester. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. Calling hours will be Monday, from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
