Obituary

Sten H. af Klinteberg III, 40 of Gloucester, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 25, 2011. A lifelong native, he was born in Gloucester on January 31st, 1971. The much loved son of and survived by Sten H. and Lila P. af Klinteberg; brother to Kirsten af Klinteberg, Astrid af Klinteberg and Fred Day, Greta and Tory Bagshaw and Elin and Joseph di Angelo. Special uncle to Carson af Klinteberg and Elias di Angelo. A graduate of Gloucester High School, he worked on the ocean for many years, early on as crew on sailing schooners traveling up and down the east coast and into the Caribbean and back. Then on to fishing boats out of Gloucester, Alaska and most recently New Bedford. He was also a member of Laborers Local 22. Owner of a heart as big as he was tall, he would readily jump in to lend a helping hand with a broad smile and a twinkle in his eye. His boyish penchant for teasing and playing jokes leaves all who knew him with a good story to remember him by. He is already very much missed by his family who will remember him with much fondness and tenderness. In the words of his favorite band, the Grateful Dead, ‘There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone.’
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on August 21st at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville. His ashes will be scattered at sea in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers and to honor his love of animals, please make donations in memory of Sten H. af Klinteberg III to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St. , Gloucester, MA 01930.
