Obituary

Wrentham—Wilma E. Winters 93, of Wrentham, and a former longtime resident of Franklin, died Monday July 25, 2011 at the Pond Home following an illness.
Born March 27, 1918 in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late James W. and Mary E. (Woodward) Winters and the stepdaughter of the late Jesse Hoyte, she had been a resident of the Boston area for many years before coming back to Franklin and moving to Wrentham in 2009.
She was raised and educated in Franklin schools, and was a 1936 graduate of Franklin High School. She went onto Larson Jr. College in Hampden, CT and then Boston University where she earned a B.A. in Education and a Masters in Education. She completed her education at Simmons College where she received and M.S. in Library Science.
She worked at Boston University Medical School, and then was a librarian in Boston for the Retina Foundation, later she moved to the Harvard School of Public Health as a librarian at the Center for Population Studies, where she worked until retiring in the early 1990’s.
Wilma enjoyed volunteering at the Franklin Public Library, traveling to visit friends out of state, watching the Red Sox and reading, especially a good mystery.
Ms. Winters is survived by many cousins and close friends in the local area.
A graveside funeral service is planned for Thursday August 11th, at 1:30PM in Union Street Cemetery, Franklin. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory sent to Friends of Franklin Public Library 118 Main St. Franklin, MA 02038 would be appreciated.
