Obituary

William Harrison "Bill" Tomes, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday July 19, 2011 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center.

He was born in Brownsville, KY to George & Minnie M. (Gilbert) Tomes.

Bill was a retired meter reader Supervisor for L.G.& E., a WW II Navy Veteran, a Mason and a member of First United Baptist Church (Longfield).

He was preceded in death by his Parents, 3 Brothers: Carl,
Thomas "Junior" and Harlan
Tomes; 2 Sisters: Ruby Hornback and Pearl Darnell.

Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years: Catherine (Soufflas) Tomes; his children: Van Tomes (Gayle), Diane Garner (Jack) and Susan Laws (Mark); 5 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren. 3 Brothers: Samuel (Laverne), Sherman and Marion (Margie) Tomes; 2 Sisters: Goldie Woosley and Jewell Tomes and many nieces & nephews.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Friday at First United Baptist Church (Longfield), 5507 Cartledge Ct., Louisville, KY 40214.

"Bill" will be laid to rest in Lone Hill United Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors.

Visitation will be 2 - 9 PM Thursday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. and after 10 AM Friday at Church.

The family would like to thank the team of caseworkers at the Veterans Administration
and the "Angels" who gave care to him at Hosparus of Louisville.

He had countless friends in life and was a giving, humble man.....
