Samuel W. Reed, 73, of Westport died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital after an extended illness, surrounded by his family. Born in Fall River, son of the late Roger M. and Hilda (Taber) Reed, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. A veteran of the Vietnam Era, he served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He was a fisherman on various vessels out of New Bedford, retiring as a lead fisherman for NOAA on Vessel Research Albatross, Woods Hole, MA. Mr. Reed was a member of the Noquochoke Lodge, Westport and he also enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include a brother: Roger M. Reed, Jr. and his wife Linda of Westport; a nephew: Roger M. Reed, III of Westport; and a niece: Lisa R. Moody of Wolfboro, NH.
The family would like to thank Betsy Couto and her team of care givers, who allowed Mr. Reed to remain in his home during his illness.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends and his dog Gizmo.
As per Mr. Reed’s wishes he was cremated. A private memorial celebration will be held at a future date.
