Obituary

George S. Zimmermann, 72, passed away on July 17, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Colby) Zimmermann with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in New York City on Feb. 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Julius and Katherine (Shady) Zimmermann. George was a PFC in the U. S. Army Infantry. He spent a year at Fort Devens and was stationed for over a year in Hawaii and fought in the Vietnam War before he was honorably discharged. George was employed with Hale Engineering, Maynard Plastic and Waco Fish Processing.
He enjoyed the Red Sox, bowling, Salem Willows and spending time with his family.
Besides his wife Ruth, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Cheryl Zimmermann of Salem, Norman and Julie Zimmermann of Hamilton and Robert and Wendi Zimmermann of Kingston, NH, a daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Steve Belair of Franklin, NH, his grandchildren, Nicole, Cain, Colby, Austin, Brandon, Dylan, Christopher, Abigail, Jessica and Kayleigh, his brothers, Ronald Zimmermann and his wife Donna of Nottingham, NH and Donald Zimmermann and his wife Barbara of Merrimac, two sister-in-laws, Lois Zimmerman of Hawaii and Elaine Zimmermann of AZ and many nieces an nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Alfred and John Zimmermann.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs will be held prior to the service from 10-10:45AM.in the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made in George’s name to Hospice of Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923
