Obituary

Mr. Roland G. “Jug” Arguin, of Taunton, died Saturday, July 16 in Cape Coral, Fla., following a period of failing health. He was the husband of Ruth G. (Hauck) Arguin. He was born 90 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Joseph M. and Roseanna (Topping) Arguin. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Arguin had owned and operated the Lafayette Club in Taunton, and was also a well known and respected mason in the community, whose work is prominent throughout many residences and businesses in the area. Roland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre with the 1st Cavalry. He was wounded in action three times, and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, and the Infantryman Badge among others for his campaigns in the Pacific, including the Battle for Manila and the liberation of the Phillippines. He was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Church in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 2 daughters: Rhoda Reyburn and her husband, Todd of Kokomo, In., and Rhonda Lopes and her husband, Bruce of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 1 brother: Lucien Arguin of Taunton; 1 sister: Lucille Proulx and her husband, Arthur of Taunton; 5 grandsons, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Leo, Edgar, Ralph and Jeannette Arguin.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, July 23 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
