Sallie Mae Howell Walsh Rowell, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at the Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Mathews, the Rev. Edsel Young and the Rev. Luther Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Rowell was born May 24, 1927 in Irwin County to the late Oscar J. and Minnie Collins Howell. She lived in Irwin and Ben Hill counties all of her life, graduating from Irwin County High School. Mrs. Rowell was a homemaker and a former seamstress for Fitzgerald Underwear and The Monarch Company. She was a member of Eastside Holiness Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Rowell; son & daughter-in-law, Billy & Meredith Walsh and daughter, Elaine Walsh all of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren: Donna (Jim) Houston, Kasi (Stephen) Morgan, Chrystal Nicole Walker, Maranda Walker, Melanie Walker and Lamar Walker, Jr. and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby H. Roberts of Cleveland, TN, Ella H. Wetherington of Valdosta and Florence H. Touchton of Jacksonville, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey G. Walsh, Jr., 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
