Salem: Lauretta L. (Lamarre) O’Brien, age 91 of Salem, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Wallace G. O’Brien.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Rosa (Brochu) Lamarre. In her younger years Lauretta worked as a welder for General Electric in both the Lynn and the Boston plants. As a devoted wife, mother and home maker, she loved gardening, sewing and cooking. Lauretta was an active member of Ste. Anne Parish in Salem prior to her illness.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth A.Kobus and her husband William P. of Salem, 2 granddaughters, Heather and Amy Kobus, 3 brothers, Laurent, Rene and Lucien Lamarre, 3 sisters, Theresa Grenier, Martha Diebner and Marie Darisse. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lauretta was predeceased by 3 brothers, Robert, Rosario and Clarence Lamarre, and 4 sisters, Rita Cappuccio, Jeannette Searles, Julienne Marks, and Bernadette Anketell.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 8 a.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 9 a.m. Visiting hours: Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
