Obituary

George F. Archer, 86, a Medway resident for the past 50 years, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Betty (Young) Archer for 61 years.

Born in Worcester on July 9, 1925, he was the son of the late George C. and Mabel (Wall) Archer.

Mr. Archer was a Marine Corps veteran of WWII and Korean War and was a member of the Medway VFW Post #1526 and the American Legions Post #208 in Millis.

Before his retirement, he worked at Honeywell Information Systems in Billerica for 28 years and formerly at Paramount Industries in Medway for 16 years.

Mr. Archer served on the Medway School Committee for 6 years, 2 years as Chairman and 2 years as Vice-Chairman and was a member of the School Building Committee and Building Needs Committee. He also served on the Medway Finance Committee for 2 years and the Medway Water Board for 6 years, 5 years as Chairman.

Mr. Archer was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and the Good Government Association with service as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. He was the former Vice-Chairman of the Medway Junior League and a member of the Medway Junior-Senior High School Boosters Club and the St. Joseph’s Men’s Club.

Mr. Archer was also a former Chairman of the Heart Association Fund Drive and in his free time was an avid golfer.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Debra Archer of Medway, Gary Archer and his wife Janice of Rehoboth, Gail Corbett and her husband David of Medway, Scott Archer and his wife Jacqueline of Newburyport and Todd Archer and his wife Courtney of Flower Mound, TX.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and was predeceased by four siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, July 15 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m.
