Alice M. Roy, age 87
Longtime Tewksbury Resident
TEWKSBURY: Alice M. (Patenaude) Roy, age 87, a resident of Tewksbury for over 35 years, formerly of Zephyr Hills, FL and Kennebunk, ME, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.
She was the beloved wife of Gerard C. Roy, who passed away on February 10, 2008.
Born in Lowell on October 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Yvonne (Pouliot) Patenaude.
Alice was raised in Lowell, attended Lowell schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1942.
Prior to her retirement , she was employed as an Auditor by the Internal Revenue Service, where she worked for several years. During World War II, Alice worked as a Stitcher in the Mills of Lowell making parachutes for the military. In addition, her family recalls her having tremendous expertise as a Seamstress.
Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and was a communicant of St. Williams Parish of Tewksbury.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald G. Roy and his wife Linda (White) of Tewksbury and Garry R. Roy and his wife Patricia Nelson of Groton; her son-in-law, Richard Spires of Deltona, FL; two sisters, Yvette LePine and Lorraine Blaha both of Ocala, FL; her sister-in-law, Regina (Sullivan) Patenaude; her grandchildren, Timothy Roy and his wife Christen of Windham, ME, Aimee Roy of Tewksbury, Scott Roy of Fryeburg, ME, Anne Marie Roy of Oakland, CA, Linda Clark of Deltona, FL, Donna Van der Meide and her husband Eric of Navarre, FL and Richard Spires, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Bedford, NH. Eleven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Alice was the mother of the late Susan M. Spires, mother in-law of the late Susan M. Roy and sister of the late Ella LaRoche, Ruby LaRoche, Mary Jane Hamel and Henry M. Patenaude.
Calling hours Wednesday, July 13, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Thursday, July 14, at 9:30 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
