Obituary

Lynn: Cornelius F. Welch, age 85 of Lynn, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at the Chelsea Soldiers Home following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary (Reagan) Welch. A veteran of World War II, he served overseas with the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked as a machinist for Leach and Heckel of Salem. Mr. Welch was employed by General Electric of Lynn, where he had a long career involved in the assembly of the F-16 and the F-81 in the aircraft engine research division. He retired in 1988. Mr. Welch was an avid swimmer. Over the years he logged over 20,000 miles of swimming at both the Salem and Lynn YMCA. He was an active member and fund raiser for the ‘Y’. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by 2 sons, Steven Welch and his wife Colette of W. Newbury, Kenneth M. Welch of Beverly, 3 grandchildren, Rachel V. Welch of W. Newbury, Niles A. and Ryan G. Welch both of Salem, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Welch and his sister, Constance Welch.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 12 noon in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem.
