METHUEN – Alfred Petrillo, 90, of Methuen, MA., and also Lawrence, MA., died Wednesday June 29, 2011 at the Holy Family Hospital.
Born and educated in Methuen, MA., he was the son of Giovanni and Ida (DiBurro) Petrillo. He attended the Pleasant Valley Grammar School, and graduated from the Edward F. Searles High School, and also the McIntosh Business School.
He proudly served his country during World War II as a Lieutenant and Naval Aviator with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.
After World War II, he worked in the Shoe Manufacturing Industry for many years in Haverhill, Ma., and for the last 25 years of his work life, he was employed at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, MA., where he retired.
He was an active member of the Arnold Greenwood Post #8349 V.F.W., and The Sargent Improvement Club in Methuen. He loved playing golf and was a member of the Merrimack Golf Club. He was an avid sports fan which included all the Boston Teams, and was a big Ted Williams fan and loved to talk about William’s accomplishments.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey J. Petrillo and his wife Sandra of Lawrence, MA. He also leaves his brother Thomas J. Petrillo and his wife Marguerite of Methuen, MA., and several nieces and nephews.
In the remaining months of Alfred's life, he wished to spend quality time with his only surviving brother Thomas.
Alfred was pre-deceased by his former wife Alice J. Petrillo, and brothers Frank, Albert, Americo, and William and his sister Jennie (Petrillo) Perrotta.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Wednesday July 6, 2011 from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM on July 7, 2011 in St. Lucy’s Church of Methuen. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
