Obituary

John A. Rountry, 69, of Brockton, died Sunday June 26, 2011 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. John’s native name was Nana-Pash-Met which means New Moon. Born and raised in Whitman, John was the son of the late Otis and Marcia West (Collins) Rountry. For many years he had been employed as a steel worker. He was a lover of animals and would bring home stray or injured animals, nurse them back to health and release them back into the wild. His favorite was a wild turkey with a broken wing that he eventually was able to release at the Wampanoag Reservation in Freetown. John was loved by all his family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by a brother Russell Rountry and his wife Donna of Cape Coral, FL, four sisters Barbara Packard and Rose Shapman both of Whitman, Sandra Denton of Bridgewater and Ethel Rountry of Halifax. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late Charles “Mike” Rountry.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday July 2, 2011 11am-1pm. Burial will be at a later date at Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.
